Rockers Almost Easy took the top prize after seeing off all challengers to claim a junior battle of the bands title in Lichfield.

The Cannock-based four-piece were one of six acts who performed at the Guildhall for the right to play the main stage at the Fuse Festival this summer.

Pam Beale, from Lichfield Arts, said: “When I set about organising this contest, I really wanted a broad range of young musicians to enter and take up the opportunity to show off their talent. That is exactly what happened and over three heats and the final we have seen some exceptional talent – the youngest performers being just 11 years old.

“What was so rewarding about the competition was how supportive of one another the acts have been throughout.

“I was really proud of them all for showing such spirit and I really hope we can make this an annual event for young local talent.”

The judges spent plenty of time deliberating on their decision before confirming Almost Easy as the winners.

Musician Phil Beale – who was one on the judging panel, added: “Picking a single winner proved to be a really difficult task, given the quality of the performances on the night and the diverse range of musical styles on display.

“In the end Almost Easy won by a short head, but in all honesty all of the acts would be capable of pulling off the main prize of playing the main stage of the Fuse festival in July.”

The band will play Fuse Festival at Beacon Park on July 13. For more details on the event visit
