Enterprising Lichfield students have landed a national award.

The Big Board Company team from King Edward VI School were named overall winners in the Young Innovators competition in London.

They developed the new Hazar family board game designed to allow different types of play on the same base.

The team said: “It’s crazy – we just weren’t expecting it.

“We’re just so happy all our hard work’s paid off. A number of us have decided to go into business from this.

“Our marketing director discovered he really likes marketing, so he’s going to do that at university.

“We’ve discovered business management, all sorts. We’ve learnt a lot and really enjoyed it.

“We’ve gained so much confidence and learnt how important communication is.”

The Lichfield students beat off competition from schools across the country to land the prize.

But Ian Smith, chairman of organisers Young Enterprise, said there was plenty of learning for everyone who took part.

““In life you do three things,” he explained. “You make the right decisions, the wrong decisions, and no decisions.

“It’s important to at least make some and learn from the wrong ones.”
