Local residents are being invited to help record details of Lichfield’s moth population. The monthly events in Beacon Park will help identify the number and different types of moths caught in traps overnight. Starting at 8.30am, they sessions take place on the first Thursday of every month during the summer – beginning on Thursday (June 6). Ruth Witczak, Beacon Park’s Community and Education Officer, said: “It will be interesting to see which species of moths come to Beacon Park over the summer. “We’ll once again be sending our records to the county recorder, so scientists can track any changes in populations over time.” Before setting off, visitors can check that enough moths have been caught overnight by phoning 07931 891086 from 8am on the day. The moths will be released after each event. For more information, call 01543 308869 or email ruth.witczak@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
