Hammerwich beat Whittington in the Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship

Hammerwich kept themselves at the business end of the Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship’s Premier Division with a win against Whittington.

An impressive 114 with the bat from Dan Kirk looked to have given Whittington a healthy score of 251-5 from their 50 overs.

But Hammerwich held their nerve to hunt the total down and complete the three wicket victory with one ball to spare.

Lichfield sit fourth in the table after defeat against Wednesbury.

Harish Patel bagged six wickets as the city side made 242, but saw a knock of 144 from Jacabus Vorster Maritz help see Wednesbury home.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Hawkins Sports are top after securing a winning draw against Pelsall, while Swindon got the better of Old Wulfrunians.

The day’s other game saw Beacon claim a winning draw against Cannock & Rugeley.

June 8 Premier Division fixtures:

Aldridge v Hammerwich
Cannock & Rugeley v Lichfield
Hawkins Sports, v Wednesbury
Swindon v Beacon
Whittington v Old Wulfrunians
