An 82-year-old man is still in a critical condition after a crash in Lichfield.

His silver Vauxhall Vectra was involved in a collision with a red Mini at the junction of Birmingham Road and Upper St John Street on Friday (June 7).

The crash – which also saw the Vectra collide with a building – caused traffic chaos in the city centre as part of the Birmingham Road was closed for two-and-a-half hours.

The Vectra driver, who is from the Walsall area, was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire where his condition is described as “critical but stable”.

Police are now trying to trace any witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 5.50pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision can ring the CIU on 01785 234094 or Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 596 of 7 June.
