A registration and usage fee are likely to be introduced for Shopmobility services in Lichfield.

The plan is part of Lichfield District Council’s Fit for the Future review, which is aiming to shave £1.7million off the local authority’s budget.

A number of options were considered by an internal review, set to be discussed by the overview and scrutiny committee on Thursday (June 20).

The report ruled out closure of the service because of the “adverse publicity and impact on users of the service”.

It also highlighted potential reductions in tourism and coach visits if the service was scrapped.

The report has instead suggested the introduction of a £5 membership fee and £1 usage fee for the service, which currently has 673 registered users.

The move is hoped to generate an additional £3,000 in revenue.
