The Lichfield Nomads bowling attack showed their worth as they helped collect a victory against Walsall AHA.

Hoddy won the toss and decided to put the hosts in to bat, with Brannigan and Heslington opening up the attack.

But Walsall’s weakened line-up started positively, until Brannigan opted to go round the wicket and was immediately rewarded with his first victim.

The run-rate slowed but the batsmen looked comfortable until Brannigan produced a great piece of fielding, throwing down the stumps at the bowler’s end from a good 40 yards.

The clever piece of work sparked a batting collapse as 43-1 became 50-6 in just three overs. This spell saw the contest become a formality as Hughes and Bourne polished off the tail with two wickets apiece, leaving Nomads to score 65 to win.

The trusted partnership of Gardner and Heslington were sent in to do the job which they almost did unaided.

An lbw against Heslington after a fine innings saw Chris Jones come in to face just one ball before the job was done.
