Hammerwich fail to find a way past Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship leaders Hawkins

Hammerwich were unable to put the brakes on Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship Premier Division leaders Hawkins as they went down by three wickets.

The front-runners saw Muhammad Fayaz in inspired form with the ball as he collected 5-56.

Ben Traat (44) and John Ackrill Jnr (50) top scored for Hammerwich as they were restricted to 152-9 in their 50 overs.

Danny King (3-24) and Todd Allen (4-49) did their best to prevent Hawkins from picking up another victory, but they eventually surpassed the Hammerwich total after 42-5 overs with the loss of seven wickets.

There was better news for Lichfield though as they overcame Whittington.

After being sent into bat, the Three Spires men had Riley Ward in inspirational form as he rifled 181 not out to help rattle up a total of 345-7 from their 50 overs.

What Ward did with the bat, James Wilkinson did with the ball for Lichfield as he collected figures of 6-29 as Whittington fell 226 runs short.

Elsewhere in the division, Pelsall got the better of Old Wulfrunians, Aldridge beat Beacon and Cannock & Rugeley went down to Swindon.

Premier Division fixtures for June 29:
Beacon v Pelsall
Cannock & Rugeley v Whittington
Lichfield v Aldridge
Old Wulfrunians v Hawkins Sports
Wednesbury v Swindon
