New homes could be built on the site of a former concrete works in Burntwood.

The site at Chorley Road has been earmarked for seven new properties.

But the developers will need to convince Lichfield District Council planning chiefs to give the scheme the go-ahead, after other residential applications for the site were rejected in 2005 and 2007.

In a statement supporting their application, the developers said the new use of the land would be an improvement for the local area.

“The replacement of the existing incongruous concrete manufacturing plant and its attendant external storage of vehicles, plant and machinery with a modest residential development of a design of the highest order, would be in keeping with its rural location,” they said.

“It would constitute a significant improvement to the openness of the Green Belt.

“The proposed development would therefore result in less traffic, less activity and less car parking.”

Residents can have their say on the proposals via Lichfield District Council’s planning website.
