Education bosses in Staffordshire have welcomed a review of school meals.
A new Government report has suggested head teachers ban packed lunches to ensure unhealthy foods aren’t being eaten.
The School Food Plan is also looking at extending the free school meals entitlement, as well as developing after school cooking lessons for children and parents.

County councillor Ben Adams, cabinet member for learning and skills, said it was important youngsters were getting the right food.
“It is well documented that children who are provided with a quality, healthy and nutritionally well balanced meal improve their learning and concentration, so it is extremely important our children have access to meals in school,” he added.
“We have been working hard to ensure school meals are the most attractive option for parents in terms of cost, taste and choice.
“There are tremendous benefits from investing in decent cooked meals in schools, namely we can ensure children are getting at least one healthy nutritious meal a day which we know leads to increased learning.
“There are also benefits for the wider economy. We use local suppliers wherever possible, which reduces transport costs and makes the most of our local businesses.”

Give them all free meals – then reduce their benefits by the cost of the meals.
We shouldn’t be subsidising “a quality, healthy and nutritionally well balanced meal” for children.
It is the thin end of the wedge.
They’ll grow up to become the type of people who frequent the Garrick.
Do we want to encourage a new generation of well-nourished arts lovers!?!
“A Cynical Parody” We are already subsidising (we hope) “a quality, healthy and nutritionally well balanced meal” via their parent . But now the powers that be are suggesting – cut out the middle person – because in their opinion the parent does not know best.
Well fed people are no good for the theatre – we need them to buy lots of noisy food which I thought these days was compulsory!
No, I’m right.
