Lichfield Nomads battled the elements as well as their opposition to grind out a draw at Sutton-on-Hill.

The visitors lost the toss and were sent into the searing heat for a tough fielding session.

Heslington and Fearon started with a tight spell of bowling before the latter nicked the first wicket after eight overs with the score at 21.

But Martindale came to the crease for the hosts and began to play a series of fine shots to up the run-rate. He was being ably assisted by Harding at the other end, before he top-edged Hoddy’s bowling to gully.

Forster eventually trapped the impressive Martindale with Coombes claiming the catch as Sutton-on-Hill declared on 239.

Nomads’ hopes of chasing down the total were hampered when Gardner was dismissed by the first ball of the innings.

The early blow knocked the stuffing out of Lichfield and they quickly looked to play for the draw as other wickets began to fall.

Bourne came to the crease looking to repeat his match-saving feat in a previous encounter with Sutton-on-Hill, but a wild swing saw him bowled. Taylor soon followed in losing his wicket, with Jones and Fearon finally settling down the Nomads play.

Fearon was eventually caught before Pickering also lost his wicket. But Heslington and Jones saw Lichfield over the line for a draw.
