Burntwood Town beaten by Victoria Athletic in pre-season test

There was another pre-season test for Burntwood Town as they went down 4-2 at Victoria Athletic.

Facing opposition from a division higher in sweltering conditions, Mike Gentles’ men went behind early on before levelling through a Jordan Kent header on 20 minutes.

But Victoria were back in front after breaking the Burntwood offside trap.

The hosts made wholesale changes at the break and it showed as they increased their lead to 3-1 ten minutes after the interval.

Lee Howell reduced the arrears when he bundled the ball home from a corner, but a penalty late on saw Victoria round-off the win.

There was time for Burntwood to try to get back into the game but Haston’s penalty hit the post.

Town’s pre-season continues with a game against New Hall United tomorrow (July 20) at Yates Sports and Social Club in Pelsall, kick-off at 2pm.
