Roads across Lichfield and Burntwood have been flooded after heavy downpours overnight.

A number of routes around the district have been affected during the rush hour this morning (July 23).

Drivers travelling through Shenstone were struggling to move after flooding at Pinfold Hill, while similar problems struck at Wheel Lane in Lichfield.

Meanwhile, Staffordshire County Council has warned people that more weather-related problems could develop during the day.

Residents are also being told to check services are still running if they are planning to travel by public transport.

Cllr Simon Tagg said: “Heavy rain is forecast throughout the day and we expect that there will be localised flooding across many parts of the county.

“The sudden downpours mean that water is running off fields and the gullies are simply unable to cope with the amount of water on the roads. As a result, we are already experiencing some surface flooding on our roads and so I would appeal for people to drive with extra care.

“Our contact centre is already experiencing an increase in calls, however it’s important to bear in mind that the water should drain away naturally after a couple of hours.”

If standing water remains two hours after rain has stopped, people can call 0300 111 8000.
