A man has been charged with attempted kidnap after an incident in Lichfield city centre.

Police were called to Market Square at 1.25pm on Saturday (July 27) after reports a man had opened the passenger door of a 71-year-old woman’s car while she was waiting to park and got in.

The woman managed to raise the alarm, before the suspect was detained by a member of the public until police arrived to arrest him.

A 39-year-old man from the city was charged with attempted kidnap and remanded to appear before magistrates at Burton today (July 29).
