Winning draw for Hammerwich CC in rain-hit game against Lichfield CC

Hammerwich picked up a rain affected winning draw in their Staffordshire Club Cricket Championship Premier Division encounter with local rivals Lichfield.

A solid performance with the bat saw the city side post 199-5 from their 50 overs, with Peter Woodfield (54no) top scoring as the Hammers spread the wickets between five bowlers.

Hammerwich managed just 27 of their overs, racking up 119-8 as Lichfield went close to nicking the victory, thanks in the main to figures of 4-33 with the ball from Thomas Stone.

Whittington suffered a miserable weekend after a three wicket defeat against Pelsall.

Batting first, a shaky start saw openers Greg Hunt (8) and Daniel Kirk (0) dismissed by Stephen Blews.

The middle order steadied the ship as they eventually rallied to make 185-9 from their 50 overs.

The early dismissal of Pelsall opener Paul McPherson (4) by James Evans on route to figures of 3-65 gave Whittington hope, but the total was eventually reached for the loss of seven wickets in just 37 overs.

Elsewhere in the division, Hawkins continued their winning streak with a victory of Swindon, Beacon got the better of Old Wulfrunians and Wednesbury saw off Aldridge.

August 3 Premier Division fixtures:
Aldridge v Pelsall
Beacon v Wednesbury
Cannock & Rugeley v Hammerwich
Lichfield v Old Wulfrunians
Whittington v Hawkins Sports
