A new war memorial has been given the go-ahead in Burntwood.

Lichfield District Council has approved plans for a £17,000 stone.

It will be placed at the Burntwood Memorial Institute Community Centre on Rugeley Road once the fundraising total has been reached.

In a statement backing their application, the trustees of the Burntwood Memorial Community Association said: “We have received donations of around £4,000 and the Community Centre has agreed to raise the remainder of the costs by holding fundraising activities at the centre.

“The War Memorial will be open to the people of Burntwood at all times and with the 100 year anniversary of the Great War approaching, it will be a great asset.”
