Burntwood RUFC set to get season underway with Wednesbury cup clash

After matching themselves against Willenhall, Stafford and Rugeley in pre-season matches Burntwood RUFC get their season 2013-14 underway with a county cup tie at home to Wednesbury this Saturday (September 7).

They welcome their Black Country rivals to The Sportsway for the quarter final of the Staffordshire Intermediate Cup with the kick off set for 3pm.

It is a case of deja vu a week later when the same sides meet at the same venue to open their Midlands 3 West North league campaigns.

Burntwood will be lead by 1st XV skipper Ian Jones who took over from Rob Cartwright during last season when Rob became unavailable due to ill health. Rob is back in action now and should feature during the new season.

Burntwood Rugby Club also hosts the Staffordshire Coaching Conference on Sunday, beginning at 10am. Club and school coaches are invited to attend for the day long event.

Sessions will be run by England Women’s Assistant Head Coach Graham Smith, Alan Biggs the RFU Match Official Development Manager, Eugene Martin from the Birmingham/Solihull Club and Dr Ian Kenvyn from Leeds University.

Attendance costs just £5 and more details can be obtained from Lee Pearson on
