The Diocese of Lichfield missed out on the chance to lift the Church Times Cricket Cup for the second time in three years after going down to the Diocese of London.

Lichfield were sent in to bat but suffered a tough morning as they went in for lunch at 91-5 off 31 overs. Simon Taylor (33) and Bishop Mark Rylands (29) were the pick of the batsmen.

But any hope of a building a total in the afternoon disappeared as Lichfield were skittled out for 132.

London made light work of the total to claim the title.

“It’s a bit depressing, really” said Bishop Rylands. “We didn’t have the best of the wicket and they played rather well.”
