Fire chiefs have warned Lichfield and Burntwood residents to take extra care during upcoming industrial action.
A row over pensions will see a four hour strike by firefighters across the country on September 25.
Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s deputy chief fire officer, Chris Enness, reassured residents that serious incidents would still be dealt with.
But he added that residents needed to play their part in helping the service during the walkout between noon and 4pm.
“Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has robust plans in place for industrial action and we will be answering and responding to all life risk incidents,” he said.
“However, we will not be able to provide our usual emergency response cover during the strike period.
“This means it is more important than ever for people to be extra vigilant when it comes to their and everyone else’s safety.”
Mr Enness called for people to only dial 999 in a genuine emergency.
“There is no need to be alarmed,” he added. “But I am appealing to people to drive carefully, ensure that all cooking appliances and electrical items are switched off after use and to check their smoke alarms are working – these simple actions could save their, or their family’s lives.
“It is also important that people take care while at work in commercial and businesses premises.”
