Lichfield RUFC Development Team produce another victory at Camp Hill

Lichfield RUFC’s Development Team kept up their 100 per cent start to the season with another good win in a friendly at Camp Hill.

They were up against a much bigger and very physical home team, but after withstanding a lot of pressure in the first half – including successfully defending a series of five metre lineouts – they turned it around in the second half when their fitness told and they eventually ran out quite comfortable winners.

At half time the score was 7-7. Tim Raybould dived over from close range to open the scoring, Jim Clark converted, before the one real defensive lapse of the afternoon allowed the Camp Hill loose head centre to even up the scores.

But the second period started well for Lichfield when Matt Brown finished off a good phase of team play to put them back ahead.

The visitors should really have added a couple more tries but good build-ups were too often ruined by poor final passes. However, just before the hour Clark settled the nerves a little with a well struck penalty to put them two scores ahead.

Lichfield then relaxed a little and managed to successfully finish off more multiple phases of play to send Jon Doubleday and then Chris Upton over for two more tries, both converted by Clark.

It was a very committed performance from the Development squad, with some fine individual performances but more importantly a very strong and hardworking team effort.
