For the third time this month Lichfield City FC came up against high flying Brocton.

Paul Holt’s men were hoping to avenge two previous narrow defeats, but came away with just a point when perhaps two more were there for the taking.

The visitors were protecting a 100 per cent league record but is was City started the brighter with Kyle Minto and Olly Budd up front causing problems.

However, the visitors fashioned the first effort at goal when Paul McMahon’s wild effort missed the target.

Lichfield’s first opportunity saw Budd shrug off the attention of Rob Tomlinson only for his weak shot to go straight at Adam Whitehouse in the Brocton goal.

The quick-thinking keeper immediately launched the ball forward for Gary Fife to flick on. McMahon collected the loose ball and lobbed City stopper Craig Johnson to put the visitors ahead.

The goal didn’t put Lichfield out of their stride, though, with only a breathtaking triple save from Whitehouse keeping the scores level. He leapt well to claw out a Jonathan Huckfield header before springing up to keep out the rebound and block a third effort with his feet.

Brocton’s keeper was being kept busy and did well to prevent a Leon Morgan volley finding the net.

The second half saw more of the same as Morgan was again denied by the impressive Whitehouse.

City were knocking on the door and eventually broke Brocton’s resistance when Danny Worrall headed hoe at the back post to level the scores.

Lichfield kept pushing for a winner, but saw a succession of corners come to nothing.

A positive afternoon for City ended on a sour note when Liam Holt picked up his second yellow card, leaving the hosts with ten men.
