Apprentice star to launch Lichfield business academy for women

A former star of BBC’s The Apprentice is set to bring her successful leadership academy to Lichfield to help inspire local businesswomen.

Jo Cameron will host a free launch event at St John’s House in the city centre on October 22.

The Achievers Academy for Women will provide a monthly meeting where people can come together to share their expertise and inspire each other with their experiences of running their own businesses or holding senior corporate roles.

The new group will be led by Ann Skidmore, who will be supported by The Apprentice star.

“Lichfield and the surrounding area have a huge amount of talented businesswomen who want to grow their own businesses and develop their leadership capacity,” Jo said. “They are the energetic leaders who want to mix with other women who have similar ambitions to themselves and people who are keen to become more motivated and share their expertise.

“That’s why I have chosen Lichfield as the next place to launch my latest academy.”

The Achievers Academy currently has 17 groups across the country – but the target is to reach the 100 figure.

“Research has highlighted that one-in-four UK businesses are female owned,” Jo explained. “These are ventures which contribute a total turnover of around £130 billion to the UK’s economy – hence why I am so passionate about promoting the achievements of women in business, their qualities and what they can do to inspire the next generation.

“There are also many business groups up and down the country catering for start-ups but it was clear there is nothing to support woman who already have their own, or are part of, growing and successful companies.

“Spotting that niche drove me to set up the academy. It has proved to be a powerful platform for members to learn, share experiences and overcome any barriers.

“I hope businesswomen in Lichfield will see the same benefits. I’m certain we will put together a great group of ladies.”
