A new pizza takeaway could open in Lichfield if planners give it the go-ahead.
The Papa John’s brand has applied for permission to use part of the Birmingham Road building currently occupied by electrical retailer Richer Sounds.
The plan involves building a single storey extension to allow both businesses to use the site.
Papa John’s is one of the largest takeaway pizza companies across the globe.
At the start of the year it had 215 outlets in this country, but the plan to open a Lichfield branch forms part of a wider project to increase the company’s reach across the UK.
If the scheme gets to go-ahead, it would see Papa John’s battling for a slice of the city’s pizza takeaway business alongside established names such as Domino’s and Pizzaco.
Residents can see full details of the plan for the new shop and have their say on the proposals via Lichfield District Council’s planning website.

Battling Pizzaco, really? http://www.ratemyplace.org.uk/inspections/pizzaco-lichfield
Chris, I’m gob smacked! We have always bought our pizzas from Pizzaco. We have done so to ensure that we are supporting a local business rather than a national or international chain. And this is how they repay us. Welcome to Lichfield, Papa Johns. I am annoyed at my own naivety.
Another fast food outlet. Is this what Lichfield really needs?
@Ruth
Panache Indian Restaurant received a similar rating, 1 I think, but if you read the detail of the report it was more to do with their environmental impact and how they dealt with their waste, rather than any indication of the quality of food.
I haven’t read Pizzaco’s report, but I’d look into it first before abandoning them.
