Lichfield RUFC development side back to winning ways

Lichfield RUFC Development team hosted Bournville in a reserve league encounter and returned to winning ways after their narrow loss at Hereford the previous week.

The early signs were that the visitors were a well drilled and experienced outfit and the home side spent a lot of the first quarter on the defensive.

Although the Greens’ defensive display was not at the same level as the two previous weeks, it was enough to keep Bournville at bay – with Luke Taplin particularly prominent.

Gradually Lichfield started to get more possession and applied some prolonged pressure which saw them run in three good tries through Joe Meehan, Jon Doubleday and the evergreen Matt Brown. All three were converted by Dave Lote and they turned round to play into the wind with a 21-0 half-time lead.

But Bournville came roaring back, scoring two tries of their own in the first six minutes of the second period, and at 21-12 it was a finely balanced game.

To their credit Lichfield recovered from this early onslaught and gradually got back on top. On the hour Dave Lote kicked a good penalty to put them further ahead and they deservedly held on for another league win.
