The incident happened at around 5pm on October 27 as a cross-city line train from Redditch approached Birmingham New Street.

PC Ali Jama, investigating officer, said: “A passenger on board the train sat opposite a man who he noticed was performing a prolonged indecent act on himself.

“The offender’s actions were completely unacceptable and I am now calling on anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“I have conducted a number of enquiries to date and have isolated a CCTV image of a man I believe will have key information in relation to this incident.”

If you recognise the man, or can assist the investigation in any way, please call British Transport Police on Freefone 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting WWA/B6 of 03/12/13. Alternatively, you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
