Barber gets helping hand to fulfil dream of opening shop in Lichfield

A barber has been given a helping hand to fulfil a dream of opening her own shop in Lichfield.

Clair Lowe gave her first trim at Clean Cut Barbers on Upper St John’s Street at the beginning of December.

The 30-year-old, from Great Barr, has worked in a number of shops since training, but has been able to launch her own business after taking part in The Prince’s Trust Enterprise programme.

“It has been a lot of hard work to get up and running,” she said. “I just hope to do well and people will get to know me and the shop.

“I have tried to make it as comfortable as possible, there is a sofa and a games console, newspapers and magazines, and of course cups of tea.

“Without the help of the Prince’s Trust – and of course my family and friends – this wouldn’t have been possible, so I want to say a great big thank you to them all.”

The barber shop is next door to William Hill and Clair has set up a Facebook page with more information.

Gareth Smith, from The Prince’s Trust, added: “Clair is currently taking part in The Prince’s Trust Enterprise programme which has helped more than 80,000 young people set up in business since 1983.

“So far she has had the opportunity to learn about the practicalities of planning and running a business, such as marketing, selling, and money management.

“We are still working with Clair to see how we can support her to build her business and are delighted to see she is already opening her shop.”

The next Enterprise programme for people aged 18-30 is running in Cannock on January 27, 2014. For more information call Andy Henderson on 01782 406961.
