A Whittington hospice has joined a new bid to help people with dementia.

With the number of people living with the illness set to treble by 2050, St Giles Hospice has backed the Government’s strategy to improve care.

stgileshospiceEnd-of-life care for people living with dementia has been identified for particular attention and the hospice – which has cared for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses for the last 30 years – says it plans to play a part in supporting improvements.

Peter Holliday, Group Chief Executive of St Giles, said: “Dementia is rapidly becoming a major health concern.

“Care providers such as St Giles Hospice have much to offer as the Government looks for ways to improve the quality of care available to people with this disease at end-of-life.

“We are committed to serving the local community in the best way we can. Joining the local debate on improving end-of-life care, alongside our participation in innovative projects such as Memory First Dementia Care, a partnership pilot to assist people with dementia, will allow us to play a part in ensuring that the care available to people living with dementia in our community is of the highest possible standard.”
