Free swimming on offer to celebrate Lichfield leisure centre’s makeover

Swimmers are being invited to try out the new facilities at Lichfield’s Friary Grange Leisure Centre as the venue is officially reopened after a £500,000 makeover.

The changes saw improvements to the reception area, changing rooms, as well as the creation of a viewing area around the pool.

A day of activities is taking place on Sunday (January 26) to mark the official opening, with free swimming available from 8am to 1pm where supervised contests will take place with prizes up for grabs.

Then a normal-priced fun session will take place with the Aquascramble giant inflatables from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Councillor Andrew Smith, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure & Parks, said: “We hope lots of people will join us in celebrating Friary Grange Leisure Centre’s makeover.

“The improvements have made a massive difference to the leisure centre and this day is a great chance for everyone to see the works and to enjoy the programme of swimming activities.

“It will also give people the opportunity to see all the other facilities the leisure centre has to offer, including the Evolve Fitness gym and studio, and benefit from special membership discounts available on the day.”

The ribbon to formally launch the improvements will be cut at 11am by Tom Bolton, former Friary School pupil and Olympic Relay torchbearer.
