The Liberal Democrats are back on Lichfield District Council after victory in the Chadsmead by-election.
Marion Bland won the seat with 206 votes, with Labour candidate Caroline Wood in second with 157.
There was disappointment for the Conservatives, though, after Jon O’Hagan bottom of the poll with just 102 votes, while UKIP’s Bob Green claimed third with 108 votes.
The Tories had previously held the seat until Tory councillor Michael Fryers was disqualified for non-attendance at meetings.
The result marks a return to the council for the Liberal Democrats after losing all of their seats at the last election.
Well done Marion! A well-deserved win. Chadsmead residents will notice a big difference in the service offered by their councillor.
Ukip are worse than the tories .
From what I’ve previously see, Marion Bland is an accomplished local politician who works extremely hard for her constituents. So deserved congratulations.
Just to clarify, Joe: The Tories are actually worse than UKIP as they finished last. But I take it you mean in terms of ideology, arrogance, ignorance etc etc etc…?
Really pleased that Chadsmead have voted for the right person. I have never met anyone so committed to helping people in her constituency.
Well done Marion and well deserved.
in terms of racism, anti benefits, anti disabled cynic. I think Europe is yin and yang , we get good bits and bad.
Joe try to keep up – Cynic has no connection with – Cynical Parody!
Caroline Wood is an excellent Councillor (on the County Council) and would have made a brilliant contribution to Lichfield District Council.
Congratulations to Marion and good luck. Tough times ahead at LDC and our communities will need switched on, hard working and vocal councillors to get the best out of the smaller resources LDC has left.
Cynic – I’m hurt. I thought we’d made a connection on every level imaginable.
