The police cadets programme has been up for discussion at a meeting in Burntwood.

Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Arnold visited the Rotary Club of Burntwood and District to discuss the project.

Launched in 2013, the cadet programme is designed to improve links between the police and young people across Staffordshire.

“The scheme’s all about encouraging young people to develop new skills and self-confidence in the service of communities,” Deputy Commissioner Arnold said. “It isn’t about recruiting future police officers – it’s about developing young people and making a positive difference.

“Rotary clubs share this ethos through their worldwide community work, and it was a pleasure to speak to members.”

The Rotary Club of Burntwood and District is one of 33,000 groups worldwide who are part of Rotary International.

David Henderson, club president, said: “At Burntwood Rotary Club we have always sought to support our local youth and the new Staffordshire young Police Cadet Service is an excellent initiative to encourage voluntary community service.

“We wish Sue Arnold, and all of the cadets, the best of luck with this venture.”

This is a really interesting initiative from the Police and Crime Commissioner. Engaging young people is very worth while and will pay off hugely.
I wonder why the County Council is cutting Youth Services? Matthew Ellis and Sue Arnold know the value of engaging young people, and I hope they have say in these cuts.
