Barton pupils get creative to highlight road safety

Students in Barton-under-Needwood have been using their artistic skills to highlight safety on the roads.

The primary school youngsters were taking part in a poster competition after a presentation on some of the dangers they might face.

Six sessions were delivered with an Argos delivery lorry taken into the schools to highlight some of dangers of cycling on roads used by HGVs.

And the winners and runners up of the competition have been presented with their prizes by East Staffordshire Local Policing Commander Chief Insp Steve Maskrey.

PCSO Steve Smith, who organised the sessions, said: “I’m really pleased with the way the campaign has been received. The children really seemed to take on board the message we were trying to convey.

“The lorry provided by Argos gave a focus to the presentation and helped bring the reality of the message home to them. The children got really excited about having such a big vehicle in their playground.”
