A fishing festival is set to take place in June to raise money for the We Love Lichfield Fund.

The Big Fish will give 160 anglers the rare opportunity to fish on Minster Pool, one of the best silver fish pools in the country and help good causes across the district.

Qualifiers will be held at:

  • Stowe Pool on June 22 with seven entrants going through from 60 pegs
  • JCB’s Pool at Rocester on June 27 with six qualifiers from 40 pegs
  • at Stowe Pool on Saturday June 28 with seven qualifiers from 40 pegs.

The 20 anglers who qualify will fish the grand final at Minster Pool on June 29.

“We are really excited about this competition,” said event organiser and We Love Lichfield Fund donor advisor Terry Turner. “We will also be attempting to break two records at the grand final – for the biggest weight of silver fish caught by one angler, and by 20 anglers.”

Money raised will go to the We Love Lichfield Fund which makes grants available to community groups in Lichfield, Burntwood and the surrounding villages. The fund has donated over £15,000 since its formation three years ago.

The cost of entry for each qualifier of The Big Fish is £20 and entrants can compete in all three qualifiers if they wish. Entry forms are available from T Turner Autos and R & J Angling Supplies in Swallow Croft. Cheques should be made payable to Terry Turner.
