A new opportunity will give volunteers the chance to explore one of Lichfield’s most historic sites.

The city’s cathedral is appealing for people to become tower tour leaders ahead of their 2014 programme.

Applicants will need to be able to climb the steps for one or more tours on Saturdays between Easter and October.

A spokesperson for Lichfield Cathedral said: “Volunteers should be physically fit, able to climb stairs, have a head for heights and no fear of confined spaces – if that’s you then we would love to hear from you.”

There are also opportunities for people to become hosts for the Holy Writ Exhibition.

The event will showcase modern Jewish, Christian and Islamic calligraphy between April 26 and June 15.

The cathedral spokesperson added: “The exhibition is an opportunity to see stunning work by leading lettering artists from three different faith traditions alongside loans from the British Museum and historic manuscripts
from the British Library.

“We are looking to recruit exhibition hosts to welcome visitors and to oversee the exhibits.”

Prospective volunteers will need to be over 18 and able to work two hour shifts. Training will be given during March.
