People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to take extra care as firefighters go on strike.

Crews will walk out between midday and 5pm tomorrow (May 2) and between 2pm and 2am on Saturday. A further Bank Holiday strike will take place between 10am and 3pm on Sunday.

Philip Atkins, Staffordshire County Council’s leader, said: “We are asking people once again to take care during the proposed periods of industrial action by firefighters.

“This weekend, more people will be travelling as it is the bank holiday and we are also expecting more visitors heading to Staffordshire attractions from outside the county. We would ask people to be patient and take extra care at home or at work.

“The fire service has dealt well with previous days of action and we must all remain vigilant this weekend. There will be significantly fewer crews and fire engines available, so it is essential to allow these crews to focus on dealing with real 999 emergencies only.”
