Winning three major Best Comedy awards for its London debut production at The National Theatre, the story is centred round the Pendon Amateur Light Operatic Society (PALOS) and their rehearsals for a production of The Beggar’s Opera by John Gay.

Young widower, Guy Jones, has decided to try amateur musical theatre, and the PALOS newcomer is quick to gain popularity through his inability to say no. However, as he stumbles upon corruption, catches the attention of the ladies and somehow falls into betrayal, Guys finds himself unwittingly far more involved than he expected, both on stage and off.

“This is a tour de force of theatrical ingenuity, using songs from The Beggar’s Opera to comment on the shenanigans of the contemporary acting company,” said director David Titley.

“The large cast play-within-a-play depicts all the friendliness and frustration that any production entails, and the actors brilliantly bring to life all the bawdiness, back-biting and ribaldry of this superb comedy – and they sing too!”

The Lichfield Players present Alan Ayckbourn’s A Chorus of Disapproval at the Lichfield Garrick from May 14 to 17. Tickets are priced at £12. To book call the box office on 01543 412121 or visit www.lichfieldgarrick.com.
