Lichfield City FC got off to the perfect start as they picked up a 2-0 opening day win at Racing Club Warwick.

Any doubts after a testing pre-season campaign were soon extinguished as Paul Holt’s men collected all three points.

They set the tone early on as Liam Holt’s free-kick was saved before Danny Thurstance went close with ten minutes on the clock.

Racing Club Warwick went close following another City chance when Kyle Minto spurned a one-on-one as the game became an end-to-end encounter.

The breakthrough finally came before the break as Holt opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

The goal seemed to spur City on in the second period as they piled the pressure on the hosts. Minto and strike partner Ahmet Bilgimer both went close.

Warwick piled forward in search of a leveller, but their efforts backfired as Bilgimer doubled Lichfield’s advantage.

Minto almost got the goal his work deserved late on, only for a good save to deny him.

Lichfield will look to make it two wins in two when they welcome Pelsall Villa to Brownsfield Park on Wednesday (August 6).
