People in Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to take extra care as firefighters prepare for a new round of walkouts.

Crews will go on a series of 16 strikes from August 9 to 16 as a row of pensions continues.

The walkouts will take place daily from noon to 2pm and 10.59pm to 11.59pm.

Peter Dartford, Staffordshire’s Chief Fire Officer, said: “It is disappointing to hear that the Fire Brigade Union has called more strike periods, again running over eight days.

“However, I would like to reassure residents that we will have robust contingency plans in place and will continue to provide an emergency response to all life-threat situations. We will also answer all 999 calls.

“However, people must be aware that we may not be able to respond to every incident and I would reiterate the importance of being extra vigilant during the strike periods.”
