The number of parking tickets issued in Lichfield and Burntwood has dropped by 16% according to new figures.

Between April 1 and September 30, parking charge notices were issued to 3,438 vehicles, compared to 4,116 during the same period last year.

The figures will be discussed at a meeting of the Lichfield Joint Parking Board on Tuesday (October 21).

Despite the drop, the revenue raised from parking fines went up by £2,024.

The report explained: “It is the result of delays in the public paying parking charge notices and hence more income is coming in at the higher rate rather than the discounted rate.”

The meeting will also receive confirmation that Staffordshire County Council will be taking on street parking enforcement “in-house” again from April 1, 2015.

This means that Lichfield District Council is now having to look at ways off-street sites are managed.

“Officers are currently negotiating with various parties to ensure all our car parks can be managed in an appropriate manner,” the report added.
