Chasetown FC eased into the next round of the Walsall Senior Cup with a convincing win over Wolverhampton Casuals on a very wet night at The Scholars Ground.

Manager Craig Harris picked a strong line up and the home side were ahead after just four minutes when Nathan Waite netted at the third attempt, half-volleying into the ground and high into the roof of the net.

It was a long time coming before the second goal, but eight minutes before half-time Danny Edwards corner was met by a powerful downward header from Jermaine Johnson beyond the grasp of Liam Stanton.

It was 3-0 at the interval when the pacy Danny Griffiths got goal-side of the Casuals back four and drilled a low left footed shot across keeper Stanton, who got a touch on the ball but was unable to keep it out.

Waite got his second and Chasetown’s fourth from a header, which was on target but deflected off the head of defender Dan Forward and looped over Stanton just after the hour, before Griffiths added his own second goal running through the inside right channel and slotting a calm finish beyond Stanton’s dive inside his left-hand post.

Casuals had a late goal disallowed for a foul while Griffiths was denied a hat-trick late on with a volley that skewed wide of the post.

Chasetown: Bateman, Johnson, Charlton, Slater, Miles, Downes (Beckett), Brown (McDonald), Parsons, Griffiths, Waite (Wellecomme), Edwards. Subs not used: Davies, Pond.
