A goal in each half condemned Chasetown FC to a defeat as Coalville Town avenged their 4-1 defeat from earlier in the season.

The loss was significant for the Scholars as it brought to an end manager Craig Harris’ time in charge after 148 games.

The Ravens took the lead in the eighth minute after a promising start by the home side. Chase keeper John Bateman made a couple of saves before Jamie McAteer headed home, despite claims from the visitors that the ball had crossed the line for a goal kick.

Bateman was the far busier keeper and denied Jake Woolley from adding to Coalville’s lead in a one-sided first half.

Chasetown’s efforts were restricted to set pieces with Sean Bowles saving twice from Lee Butler, while another Butler free kick clipped the outside of the post with Bowles beaten.

The Scholars improved as the second half progressed but the home side doubled their tally in stoppage time when Woolley squared the ball to Alex Dean who fired home from close range.

Chasetown: Bateman, Smith, Beckett (Brown, 78 mins), Slater, Miles, Johnson, Butler, Parsons, Sullivan (Waite, 64 mins), Davies (Turton, 64 mins), Edwards. Subs not used: Downes, Pond.
