The long-awaited project was shelved after a reorganisation of the NHS.

But Burntwood Town Council leader Di Evans has now sent the petition to the Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt MP, in a bid to force a rethink of the decision.

Cllr Evans warned that the current temporary facility at Burntwood Leisure Centre would not cope with increasing demand, particularly given a new large housing development has been approved in the area.

“Considerable time and money has been expended on delivering the plans, as the health facilities here are not fit for purpose,” she said. “We call on Mr Hunt to review the decision and thus ensure that Burntwood gets the primary care facilities it so desperately needs and deserves.”
