Driver dies after his car crashes into a tree in Alrewas

A man has died after a car hit a tree near Lichfield.

His blue Audi TT was travelling between Alrewas and Croxall near the National Memorial Arboretum at 11am this morning (March 13) when the crash happened.

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson confirmed the man was in his 40s and said the force were working to identify him and inform his family.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman added: “The driver was trapped in the wreckage and was in a serious condition having sustained multiple injuries.

“Ambulance staff worked with the fire service to quickly extricate him from the car so that they could deliver vital emergency treatment. The man’s condition deteriorated and he went into cardiac arrest.

“Despite resuscitation efforts by ambulance staff and the doctor, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later.”

Anyone who saw the crash – or the Audi TT beforehand – is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 239 of March 13.
