Barton United’s interest in the Fazeley Charity Cup was ended by Birmingham AFA side CPA. The Black Swans were forced to call on Ross Burr to take on the gloves due to the absence of their goalkeeping options. But United started brightly, enjoying good possession and seeing Craig Swinfield slice an effort just wide. CPA showed they were a threat too in the opening period when a misplaced clearance from Burr saw the stand-in stopper recover to pull off a wonderful save. But Barton fell behind in the 50th minute after a free kick was conceded. The resulting set piece was floated to the far post for CPA to head themselves in front. United tried to press on to little avail with Hunt and Martin left wanting, only to feed on balls dropping around in the final third. A glorious chance did fall to Martin in the final minute of the game after a cross from Swinfield dropped on his head three yards, but it was straight at the keeper. Barton play Perrywood next at home on Saturday in the Midland Football League Division 3 hoping to turn around their recent run of defeats. Barton United: Burr, Lee, Williams (booked), Batha, Mole (Hickinbottom), Stack, Hunt, Cobley (Jackson), Swinfield, Barton (Dade), Martin.
