Chasetown FC’s bid for a top ten finish ended in disappointment with their first home defeat in six games.
It had all started so well for The Scholars, taking the lead after seven minutes when leading scorer Nathan Waite turned with his back to goal and smashed an unstoppable shot beyond Jake Eastwood.
Sheffield were level within two minutes though when Curtis Pond, on his Chasetown league debut, stopped an effort from former Scholar Joel Purkiss, but the Sheffield man followed up with the rebound.
The visitors, who were trying to avenge a 6-2 thrashing at their ground, dominated large periods of the first half and started the second period more brightly and James Gregory gave the Yorkshire side the lead seven minutes into the second half.
Sheffield rode their luck though – after Danny Edwards got to the line and caused panic in the visiting defence, Danny Griffiths saw his ferocious drive headed off the line. Then, late on, Edwards saw a bullet header also cleared off the line.
