Chasetown FC made Gresley work hard for three vital points in their hunt for a play-off spot.

The home side took an early lead when a ricochet fell to an unmarked Alex Steadman who slipped the ball beyond Curtis Pond.

But Chasetown pulled level when Nathan Waite was brought down in the penalty area and Simon Brown confidently converted the spot kick.

Gresley regained the lead following a mix-up between defender Francino Francis and goalkeeper Pond with the former looping the ball into his own goal.

Chasetown almost levelled again with Liam Roberts making a superb near post save to deny Danny Griffiths.

The Scholars battered a nervous looking Gresley in the second half and home defender Eric Graves excellently blocked a goalbound effort from Brown.

In the dying seconds The Moatmen went close to a third, catching Chasetown on the counter attack as Pond kicked away a Rob Mulonga effort.

Chasetown: Pond, Smith (Teesdale, 79 mins), Haynes (Gould, 57 mins), Slater, Francis, Beckett, Griffiths (Turton, 52 mins), S Brown, Waite, Grayson, Edwards. Subs not used: Antonio, M Brown.
