Chase Terrace councillors have welcomed improvements to the shopping precinct at Sankey’s Corner.
The work includes improved drainage, the removal of outdated signage and the installation of new seating.
Labour councillor Eric Drinkwater said: “”People have said to us time and again that what should be regarded as the key area in the town has been looking untidy and uncared for.
“The drainage has made a real improvement to the look of the pedestrian area and also to safety.
“A recent community clean-up was successful and now the installation of flower baskets, via our work with the Burntwood business community, has brightened up the centre no end.”
There was an added bonus too after landowners also carried out improvements to the shopping centre’s car park.
Labour group leader Cllr Sue Woodward added: “It’s taken quite some time but we’re pleased this work is now coming to fruition.
“Getting the funding together hasn’t been straightforward as much of the pedestrian area is privately-owned but we hope that local residents, visitors, shoppers and local businesses will benefit from the improvements and show our pride in our town. “
