A parade of decorated elephants will launch the 2015 Lichfield Festival.

Schools, community groups, charities and businesses have been busy personalising their models ready for the opening parade through the city’s streets at 3.15pm on July 3.

They will be led by Indian dance artists Dance Sansaar and members of the Kenyan Masai Warrior Tribe.

A spokesperson said: “The elephants will then be on display around the city and surrounding region from July 4 before finding new homes in the charity auction on July 11.”

The 2015 Lichfield Festival features 70 different events across ten days from July 3 to 12.

Highlights include comedians Marcus Brigstocke, authors Michael Morpurgo and Bill Oddie, folk songstress Eliza Carthy, jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock and his trio, the BBC Big Band and seven-piece ensemble Septura Brass.

There are also visits from the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Ex Cathedra and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
