Chase Terrace’s new fire station will be officially opened this week. Jane Sutton, the mother of fundraiser Stephen Sutton MBE who died last year, will be the guest of honour for the ceremony on Wednesday (July 8). She will be joined by Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford for the opening of the Rugeley Road facility at 3pm. The new station is one of a number constructed by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service as part of a £90million private finance initiative. Mr Dartford said: “The initiative is a major investment both in the service and the wider community, with specific rooms dedicated for the use of local groups. “These spaces, which are free of charge to residents, have encouraged greater engagement between the service and local people, enabling us to advise them on a range of issues to help to improve their health, safety and well-being. “This vital prevention work has made a significant contribution to reducing the number of incidents that are occurring and the number of casualties that arise from them. “The new station’s upgraded training facilities and amenities also allow firefighters to continue to provide the first-class emergency response cover that our communities expect and deserve.” Enquires about booking the community room at Chase Terrace can be made by calling 01785 898629.
