Shenstone Pathfinder began their pre-season campaign with a victory over Burntwood Town FC.

The fixture enabled Paths manager Chris Whitehouse and reserve team boss Paul Merrick to field a number of reserve team players and trailists alongside four of last season’s first team squad.

Things started well for the hosts as they went in front after five minutes when Sam O’Grady’s cross was volleyed home by Josh Haston.

The Shenstone XI continued to push and on 12 mintues doubled their lead when Sebastian Finkle latched onto a through ball from Haston before rounding the keeper and netting.

But Finkel’s game was soon ended when he suffered a suspected broken nose after being caught by a boot.

Paths continued to shine though and made it 3-0 when Steve Croxford prodded home a free kick.

Burntwood pulled one back with their first shot on goal on the stroke of half-time.

The turnaround saw a number of changes and the game saw both sides create chances. Burntwood made it 3-2 late on when an effort came back of the bar and was tucked home.
