Friends and family of a Burntwood musician have raised £10,000 in his memory.

Singer-songwriter Mike Stanley died from bowel cancer in June 2013 aged 48.

Since his death, a number of fundraising events have been organised in aid of St Giles Hospice, which cared for Mike during his final days and continue to support his widow Yvonne and their three children.

An Irish music concert at the Garrick in Lichfield saw more than 600 people attend, contributing £6,000 to their fundraising efforts.

Yvonne said: “Mike was the most amazing husband and daddy. His strength during his treatment and illness were an inspiration to so many people.

“St Giles has been a tower of strength throughout the last four years and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped us raise this money to help other people in our position.”

Lyn Shiel, community fundraiser for St Giles Hospice, added: “We’d like to thank Yvonne, her family and friends for making such a generous donation to St Giles and for continuing to show such wonderful support for the charity.

“Their efforts have raised such vital funds – helping to ensure that we can continue to deliver our specialist care to patients and their families.”
